Wear Purple on Spirit Day (Oct 20th)

Recent Facebook event "Spirit Day" or known as Wear Purple was created due to the recent suicides of oppressed gays, lesbians, and bisexuals in the United States.  Most of these suicides are adolescent teens who are going through massive oppression in schools, bullying, peers, and even with family members.  Although anyone's stance on gay rights, oppression, or even suicide can vary, over 80,000 people on FB are wearing purple for this event.  So far the page has exploded with many condolences and respect towards gay abuse victims.

This is a great cause and day of awareness, but this is only just one step.  Many others regardless of sexual orientation, race, and religion killed themselves because of oppression, depression, and finding a way out of life.  Please remember, if you choose to recognize this day, that you are showing support towards a powerful cause but it is still just one portion of something bigger.

Suicide is a personal choice that can be influenced by anything.  Seek help if you want to get out of this hole.  Understand that this is your only shot at being alive.  If there is someone you know who is having these problems, remember to talk to this person and do the best you can.  Ultimately to comes down to the victim, but just like influencing someone to bring him to this state now, you can influence him to want to live.  And if you knew someone who committed suicide, remember it is not your fault.
